Where is Phoenix Games?
See that button at the top of this page that says "directions"? That's for you. Click on it.
Why "Phoenix"?
Three reasons:
(1) It's a tribute to NJAC, a science fiction convention which ran at UMass and was frequently represented by a Phoenix in their art.
(2) It's a reference to the fact that game stores are rising and falling in the UMass area, and that we rose from their ashes... especially in that most of our fixtures were purchased from former game stores.
(3) Phoenixes are cool.
Why "Games"?
Um...it's a game store.
Are you in Arizona?
Nope. In fact, from the limited searching I have done, I don't even think that there is a Phoenix Games in the Phoenix area. How's that for ironic?
Do you have video games?
We have one game that contains a video. But seriously, no. We have all kinds of great games that involve spending time with real people and using your mind. If you don't know what I'm talking about, come down to the store, and we'll be happy to give you a quick overview.
Why would you want to hang out with a bunch of smelly gamer boys?
I have no idea. I certainly wouldn't want to. Fortunately, we don't have smelly gamer boys. We have clean gamer boys and quite a few nice gamer girls as well.
Really, you have girls there? Are you sure?
Yes, we are quite sure that we have girls here. It's true. It's pretty easy to tell. See for yourself
How'd you get girls into a game store?
It really wasn't difficult. It was a simple matter of making sure that they knew that they were welcome and would not be looked at like some kind of alien creature when they walked in the door. To make it abundantly clear that we appreciated female gamers, we have celebrated May as Female Gamer Appreciation Month since our first year.
Aren't games just kid stuff?
It is true that there are games that are made for kids, but such games make up about 2% of the Phoenix Games inventory. The rest of our games are for adults and teens.
Is Phoenix Games related to that other store with a similar name?"
No, Phoenix Games is one and only. Often imitated, never duplicated.
